Choose a Ceiling Fan Around the Room
A ceiling fan can make an occupied room feel more comfortable by moving air. Its usefulness depends on where it is placed, how it fits the ceiling, and whether the controls suit daily use. A fan that looks right in a product photo may need a different mounting arrangement in a low, high, or sloped ceiling.

Replacing a Fan, a Light, or Adding a New Location
A replacement fan starts with an existing location, but the mounting and wiring still need review for the new model. Changing a light fixture to a fan can require changes to its support. A completely new location may also need a wiring route and a decision about where the controls will go.
Tell us which situation applies before the visit. Ceiling height, access above the room, and the condition of the existing location all affect the installation effort. If you are also changing other fixtures, our lighting installation service can help connect those choices into one project.
Support and Clearance Come Before Appearance
Ceiling fans need a mounting arrangement suitable for their weight and movement. A box that supported a light is not automatically suitable for a fan. The selected fan’s instructions also determine the relevant clearances and mounting options.
North installs fans on high and sloped ceilings and in new or existing locations. Share the model before ordering extra downrods or slope adapters because those parts need to match the selected fan and ceiling. We can install a fan you supply or help you select one supplied by North.
Plan the Controls You Want to Use
Decide whether you want to control the fan and light separately and where the controls should be accessible. An existing wall switch may not offer every function available on the new fan. Remote controls, built-in receivers, and wall controls must be compatible with the selected model.
Do not assume an ordinary light dimmer is a suitable fan speed control. We review the manufacturer’s requirements and the existing wiring before recommending the control arrangement. Smart controls can also be part of the project when suitable for the selected fan. During the handoff, we show you how the installed controls operate.
Set a Useful Installation Budget
The price depends on the location, support work, wiring changes, ceiling access, and the fan assembly. A straightforward replacement and a new installation across a finished ceiling are different jobs. We explain these differences in the proposal. North handles wall and drywall, paint, and insulation restoration for its electrical work and removes and disposes of the fan or fixture being replaced.
Our own professional technicians complete the connections and testing and provide result photos and written findings. North handles required permits and inspections for the agreed work. Technicians wear shoe covers on entry and clean up the work area. Work performed by North carries a two-year workmanship warranty.
